First Annual Life Time Achievement Silver Arrow Award Presented in 2010
The first Life Time Achievement Silver Arrow Award was presented to Jan Michael Looking Wolf in 2010. After 15 recordings, 39 national award recognitions and nominations, including winning for Artist of the Year at the 11th Annual Native American Music Awards, Jan Michael's impact on the native music industry has inspired a positve voice of compassion for all people. A true humanitarian, his credits include several projects for non-profit causes that include a children's cd for kids with cancer, a homeless crisis benefit recording, a music video for victims of the Haiti Earthquake, and most recently his new rock recording project that directly benefits Native American Youth Drug and Alcohol Prevention Programs across the country. After recovering in 1994 from a stroke caused from a rare genetic enzyme disorder prone to natives, Jan Michael has dedicated his life to healing through music. He also created and instructs an accredited course in Native American Music at Oregon State University where students learn about cultural diversity through the eyes of native music cultures. To date, he has taught nearly 3,000 people how to play the Native American Flute (university courses and workshops).
